What you'll learn

In this session, you’ll learn how to use the Readiness Ladder to recognise when to repeat, step up, or step back throughout the learning-to-drive journey. You’ll explore the five key readiness areas—regulation, attention and processing, road awareness, stability, and support fit—and how to match the challenge to your young person’s current capacity. You’ll also learn how to apply the ladder when preparing for their L’s, building on-road skills, preparing for their P’s, and supporting those first independent drives. The goal is to make progress more predictable, protect confidence, and choose the safest and most useful next step.
