What you'll learn

In this session, you’ll learn the 6P Framework: Prepare, Preview, Practice, Pause, Process and Progress, and how to use it throughout your young person’s journey from preparing for their Ls through to independent driving.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Break driving into small, manageable steps
  • Know when to practise, pause, repeat or progress
  • Build confidence through repetition and successful experiences
  • Reduce pressure and avoid overwhelming driving sessions
  • Use reflection and positive reinforcement to support learning
  • Gradually transfer responsibility from parent to young driver
  • Apply the 6P Framework to supervised and independent driving
  • Recognise that progress doesn’t always mean driving somewhere harder – it can mean needing less support

The goal is not to rush through the process, but to help your young person build skill, confidence, judgement and independence over time.
