Strive to Drive Newsletter – Feb 2021

February may be short and sweet but we here at Williams OT have had a very busy month! And we are very excited to share everything with you. Ready? Here we go!

Drive-ABLE Podcast

This February, Ali Akbarian from Mobility Engineering, along with our very own Brad Williams, has joined together to create the Drive-ABLE Podcast. The Podcast where they share tips and tricks about driving with a disability or with vehicle modifications. They also exchange thoughts and ideas with some very inspiring people with disabilities and so much more!

Check out the podcast, which is available on SpotifyGoogle PodcastApple PodcastSoundCloudYoutube, and Instagram!

Don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast to get fresh listen to the latest episodes. We will be releasing some bonus episodes that you don’t want to miss so make sure to like the Facebook page for updates too!

MS Mighty Swim

We love helping out our friends especially those who help out others too! Our great friends from the MS Society recently held a Swim Meet to raise funds to help people with Multiple Sclerosis.
Our CEO Brad, even did a couple of laps in the pool to help out the team!

Hint: We had an interview with Nevin VanderBrink on our Drive-ABLE Podcast so make sure to check that out!

Nev’s swim team, Nev’s Snorkellers, is still raising funds to help people with Multiple Sclerosis with essential services and contribute to the research and cure and treatment of MS.

Fun Fact: the Drive-ABLE Podcast Duo, Ali & Brad, has donated $500 for this cause and even jumped in on the fun and dared Nev to drive to Broken Hill in Drag costume!

“What inspired you to become an Occupational Therapist?”

Recently, I (Brad Williams) was sent an email from a year 10 student. The student posed some interesting questions. I thought I would share her questions and my responses here for your interest. Let me know what you think below. If you are an OT, maybe you could make some comments below too.

“During Year 10 we are required to do a PLP (Personal Learning Program) investigation on a future career of our choice. I have chosen to research Occupational Therapy as I am interested in helping people that may have illnesses, injuries, disabilities etc. with everyday activities.

Below are some questions which I am interested to learn about. It would be greatly appreciated if someone within your workplace could answer them; it would really elevate my investigation.”

“What inspired you to become an Occupational Therapist?”

I wasn’t an OT first. I was a baker and pastry chef first. But I wanted to help people…

Driving with the Guidosimplex hand controls on a wheelchair accessible van

I was fortunate the other day to do a final sign off on a vehicle modification. This lady drives from wheelchair and has mastered an electronic hand control.
She makes it look easy.

Driving with the hand controls. Lookin’ very much like a pro!
Super cool entrance to her van
